Bernie G. Yvon Memorial Fund Scholarship Application
For High School Seniors & College Students in The Theatre/Performing Arts
The purpose of the fund is to perpetuate the legacy of Bernie G. Yvon by supporting students pursuing study in the Theatre/Performing Arts with need-based scholarships. In this eighth year (2024), amounts up to $1000 each will be available from contributions to the fund via The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. In selecting the successful candidate(s), the review committee will consider the following:
Knowledge of Bernie G. Yvon
Theatre/Performing Arts potential and past experiences
Financial need
Academic record
Two letters of recommendation
GPA
All applicants must have a 2.8 un-weighted GPA or higher, and must plan to attend or are attending an accredited US post-secondary institution. Verification of enrollment from the institution must be received by The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida before funds will be released.
Note: Checks will be payable to the student and college jointly. Therefore, applicants are required to use funds for the upcoming school year. No funds can be used for the current school year or school-related debt.
As Bernie’s parents, we learned much from the early scholarship experience and would like to pass on some suggestions to future applicants:
Learn about Bernie if you didn’t know him personally: his theatre life, generous spirit, and work ethic.
Be sure to meet the application deadline. There can be no exceptions.
Request that reference letters relate specifically to Bernie’s Memorial Scholarship.
Demonstrate your solid scholarship in a variety of subjects as well as the Theatre/Performing Arts.
Submit the following application by May 10, 2024 (extended from April 26, 2024).
If selected, you will be notified by the selection committee about next steps.
